Weather isn't brilliant up in Stanhope today but it is mild. Water temperature has dropped lately and is around 25 degrees due to maintenance problems.

This temperature of the water is set to increase as the problems have now been resolved.

Unfortunately, a broken boiler has left the pool temperature a couple degrees colder then usual. With these next few sunny days that shouldn't be much of a problem. We are currently running at 25 C / 77F

**Update**

One boiler is now fixed and working hard to bring the temp back up. This could take a few days to heat up fully, but it has already begun to take the edge off!

Still plenty of children and adults alike, have been enjoying the clean and warm waters.

Weather isnt very nice however it isnt raining so the pool is open. Temperature is lovely at 29 degrees. The weather forcast for the week isnt very good however the pool will most likely be open as long as possible.

Now the school holidays are over, the pool is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4 - 6.30 and then lane swimming 6.30 - 7.30.

Tuesday and Thursday we hold mother and toddler sessions 3.00pm -4.00pm which is also open for lane swimmers. Then 4.00 - 6.30 pm for the general public.

What an anti climax! The pool was looking wonderful, water temperature was 27C / 80F warm, and the customers started coming, then it rained.

Nevermind tomorrow is another day and it will be great (I hope). Louise, went up a steep learning curve and is getting grip now. Chris lifeguarded with help from Stephen which was good.

Lots of effort over the past few days and it's looking good. This morning the water was at 75 degrees F (25 degrees C) and it's rising at 2 degrees a day. So we can claim for once its warm on the first day of the season. Louise and Peter will be supervizing over the next few days and they will be joined by Shaun next week after being stranded in LA because of the BA strike (poor fellow!).

Start of new season

Preparations for the new season are well underway. The pool is full of sparkling water (courtesy of Northumbrian Water). Currently it is heating up. We always keep our fingers crossed at this time that it will nice and warm on the start day (this coming Saturday - 29th May). Yesterday's power cut did not help it took more than an hour to get the pump and the boilers back on!

This year we have two new supervisors Louise and Mike I wish them a good season! I also welcome the new team of lifeguards who will look after all your needs!

The Reparation Community Service Team have done some sterling work of clearing up the winter's leaves and weeds and are giving the gardens a long awaited makeover (Thanks to Claire, Carol, Christine and Mike)

A few changes: We have had the support of Weardale Area Partnership (WAP) who granted us some money to continue the improvement of the pool. The toddler pool has been repaired and relined which was badly needed, we will have a new chlorine doser which will make the supervisors tasks less onerous and we have a little money for training of lifeguards. We thank the members of the WAP committee for recognising that the pool needs support.

They (WAP) have also granted us half the money for a major new development at the pool to help bring us into the 21st century. I will say more of this when we get confirmation that the Leader Organisation will grant us the other half of the money (more crossed fingers).

We've known the forecast to be wrong before, but this is the best one we've had for a few days, and for the next few aswell.

Why not come down to the ONLY HEATED OPEN-AIR SWIMMING POOL in County Durham. There isn't long left of the season. Make the most of it whilst you can!

Our preliminary date for closing is the 6th of September; this, of course, is open to change. As soon as we know how the weather's going to play out in september.

Well, the weather's been off and on for the last few days now. It looked like this bbq summer wasn't going to happen.

Well I have it, from the Met office itself, that we are going to see some sunshine today!

Also, to those of you who have noticed the pool feeling a mite cooler then normal, we have fixed the boilers and are expecting temperatures to reach our target of 82 Farenheit.

I apologise for posting this so late; There were a few issues at the pool that needed resolving (nothing to affect the public use of the pool)

The weather seems a bit indecisive at the moment. We've been going from showers to scorching sunshine in a matter of about 5 mins.
Regardless of the weather though, the pool is still very enjoyable - What's a bit of rain when you're already wet?

Our opening times today are
11.00-13.00 General session
13.00-14.00 Closed
14.00-16.00 General session
16.00-16.30 Closed
16.30-18.30 General session
18.30-19.30 Laneswimming

Please note that when we close the pool, at 13.00 and at 16.00, you do have to pay again to re-enter when we open again.

If you want to come in for more then 1 session, then you can buy all 3 sessions for one day at the price of 2. Pool rules still apply, the pool and surrounding area must be vacated whenever we close the pool.
We cannot offer refund if you decide not to come to one of our sessions.

Well, yesterday started out fairly overcast, but it surely got out in the afternoon.
Well, we can hope for the same today!
We have a general session from 4 until 6.30 this evening.
We then offer an hour's worth of lane-swimming from 6.30 until 7.30
Now we've managed the swim to france as a pool - maybe we should work on a few individual Channel crossings? No takers? Well, we're still here if you just want a relaxing swim in the beautiful surroundings of Stanhope.

Well, our swim to france yesterday was a huge success!
Not only did we swim far enough to cross the English Channel, but we then swam half as far again!!

Well the pool is still here, in england, and we are open from 10am this morning.
We are open until 1pm, then we open at 2pm until 6.30pm.

The weather is lovely at the moment, but if it does turn, we will let you know on here.

The time is finally upon us; let's see if we can 'Swim to France'.
At a massive 1360 lengths of our pool, it is certainly not a feat to be scoffed at.

We will be open from 9.30am until 6.30pm.
We still have room for last minute sponsers...
Why not come down and see how many lengths you can contribute to our 'Channel crossing'?

We are open to the general public as well. Assuming that we don't have a sudden influx of sponsered swimmers, we will keep half the pool, and the diving board, open to the public. All for the low low price of £1.00 for adult or child.

Well, it's nearly here. The warmest 'Channel crossing' this side of Dover.
Our 'Swim to France' is from 9.30 tomorrow morning until 6.30 in the evening.
I feel the need to point out that we are not actually swimming to France. Hopefully if we combine the number of lengths completed by you, our swimmers, we will manage to hypothetically cross the Channel.

We will be busy setting up tonight, but the pool is still open if you want to come for a practice?
Do not let this talk of sponsered swimming put you off though. We are still here if you just want a relaxing swim or feel like messing about in County Durham's only heated open-air swimming pool.

The pool is still open, however, thanks to our loyal swimmers who know just how fun the pool is whether it's raining or not.

Well, yesterday was glorious, and it looks like today is going to be a beautiful day as well.
Why not come down to the pool for one of our sessions?

We are open 10.00 - 11.00 for a lane-swimming session,
We then open to the public from 11.00 until 13.00
After a lunch/cleaning break, we open again at 14.00
We often have a short break between 16.00 and 16.30 in order to clean the pool.
After that we are open until 18.30.

Please note that the 16.00-16.30 cleaning beak is not set in stone. 
We have been known to keep the pool open through the break. 
This is, however, the supervisor's decision, which must take several factor's into account

Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow as we still plan to be open for lane swimming at 10am.

The sunshine is intermittent, but the atmostphere is as warm as ever.

Today was the first day of our 'term time' opening hours.
It was fairly quiet day at the pool this afternoon. The sun is certainly trying to hold out as long as possible. But you needn't fear; The pool will remain warm regardless of the weather. Please do not think that our pool is only fun in the sun.
The pool is levelling out at our target temperature; a great 82°F.

We will be open at 4pm tomorrow for a public session

A quick reminder of our weekday opening times during the school term-time.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays;
16.00-18.30 Public session = A public session for anyone and everyone to come and enjoy our facilities.
18.30-19.30 Lane swimming = An hour-long session for a quiet, relaxing swim.

Tuesdays and Thursdays
15.00-16.00 Mother and toddler session = A nice quiet session for parents and toddlers, and for any lane swimmers who would perhaps prefer an afternoon swim.
16.00-18.30 Public session = A public session for anyone and everyone to come and enjoy our facilities.

We had a glorious day of sunshine down at the pool today. We actually managed to reach full capacity in our 14.00-16.00 session today - I am sorry to all those people who we unfortunately had to turn away. I hope you all managed to come back for the 16.30-18.30 session.

The pool soared to an amazing 85 F or 30 C. People are putting the water temperature down to the sunshine and general good weather. Honestly folks, the pool is warm come rain or shine.

To recap for tomorrow, we will be opening for the 14.00 session.

14:00-18.30 (public session)
18.30-19.30 (Lane-swimming)

Why not join us for a gentle swim after a long day of work?

We will be opening the pool for the 14.00 session. With the sunshine to help warm us up, we will be open to the public until 18.30 as per the timetable. The Lane swimming session should also be going ahead as previously advertised.

Yet again the pool is greeted with clear blue skies and glorious sunshine. Forecast to stay sunny all day, this is looking like a great day to visit the only open-air swimming pool in County Durham.

The pool temperatures are soaring at 85 °F 29 °C

Why not pay us a visit. Please be mindful of the carboot sale located in our carpark until midday.

Today started with sunny intervals for the 1st session, as the 2nd session started the sun was shining with not one cloud in sight which pleased all the swimmers as they enjoyed yet another great day in the only heated open air pool in Co.Durham.

Hi,

Stanhope Pool is now moving into the 21st century!! Access to this blog will give you an up-to-date picture of what is going on at the Pool.

We open tomorrow and the water temperature will be greater than 78 Fahrenheit (26 Centigrade) and getting warmer. The forecast is good for the weekend so please kickstart your summer holiday with us.

Supervisor tomorrow and for the rest of the half term holiday is Ryan. All new lifeguards will be on during the week : Louise, Amy, Alex, Shaun, Kirsty and Kate.

For those who don't know, we have a baby pool with a slide. The main pool has a slide and spring board and lots of sparkling warm water and it is in the open air!

Many thanks to Jamie and all the volunteers who have helped to get the Pool up to its pristine state. Special thanks to the Youth Engagement

Well, it's looking nice and sunny today. We're predicted a light shower around 1pm but it looks to be sunny, with maybe a touch of cloud, for the rest of the afternoon. Why not come down for a swim? We're open to the general public at 4pm until 6.30pm. We then have an hour set aside for anyone seeking a quiet swimming session.

Why not come down and enjoy the waters. We keep the pool at around 82°F which is also 28°C

Well, the rain's been coming down hard this morning, but the sun's out now and it looks to stay. Why not come down to County Durham's only Heated open-air swimming pool, with the water temperature at a high of 84Farenheit - 29 celsius. We are open for a general session from 16.00 until 18:30. We then open for an hour of lane-swimming until 19:30. Why not relax in our refreshing pool, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Weardale.
