Come and enjoy the pleasures of outdoor swimming in a warm (tropical water temperature of 80+ degrees Fahrenheit), safe, family environment.
For updates on what is happening at the pool day to day keep en eye on our pool blog maintained by our pool supervisors (Louise, Amy and Mike).
Pool Opened Saturday 28th May 2011
On the 29th June we opened the café, sauna and soft play area, all courtesy of Weardale Area Partnership and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (Leader) (http://ec.europa.eu/agriculture/rurdev/index_en.htm) .
Unfortunately we did not make our opening day target but it is ready NOW.
We hope we are serving the best coffee in Weardale. The muffins and the hot paninis are gorgeous The sauna will double up as a warm area when the weather is less than tropical! The soft play area is for toddlers who need distraction and to give Mum and Dad a rest.
Thank you all for your support

Weardale Open Air Swimming Pool is the only heated open air swimming pool in County Durham.
The relaxing environment provides the perfect backdrop to unwind with a rejuvenating swim, all nestled among the picturesque hills of Stanhope's surrounding countryside.
The water is heated to a tropical 80+degrees Fahrenheit nearly 30 degrees centigrade, making it an enjoyable experience, come rain or shine!
The 25x13m pool has a 1m (3 feet) shallow end, and a gentle gradient down to the 3m (10 feet) deep end.
A slide near the shallow end will keep children occupied for hours, while the springboard in the deep end allows swimmers to show off their prowess by diving in!
For younger children learning to be comfortable and happy in water, there is a small, warm, toddler pool.
New facilities include, hot sauna available on request, soft play area free for toddlers, café with a choice of high quality cakes, savories and teas and coffees. There are
changing rooms with hot showers, picnic tables, and a fully stocked shop selling hot/cold drinks, sweets & chocolate, swimming goggles/floats/hats etc.
We hold lane swimming sessions every day, and on certain days have an inflatable that children (and adults!) attempt to run across, inevitably falling into the pool, only to climb out and try again.
We also have several kayaks available for pre-booked sessions for qualified canoe people!.
